We're Ian and Bobby, the husband-and-wife team behind McKelvie Mobile Vet. Since 2022, we've proudly run a family-owned, independent mobile veterinary service based in the Scottish Borders, providing compassionate, experienced care directly to your door.
We believe veterinary visits should feel calm, personal and reassuring — more like a visit from a trusted friend than a trip to the clinic. As an independent practice, we're guided by our values, which means we can focus entirely on delivering thoughtful, professional care to the pets, families and communities we serve.
We created McKelvie Mobile Vet because we wanted to do things differently — to make veterinary care more comfortable and accessible, and to treat pets where they feel happiest and safest, at home with the people they love.
At the heart of everything we do is a simple belief: every pet deserves individual attention, every visit should feel unhurried, and every family should feel genuinely supported.

Dr. Ian McKelvie BVMS MRes MRCVS
Veterinarian & Founder
Born and raised in a West Coast village, Ian grew up outdoors, playing rugby and working on a local farm. After graduating from Glasgow University in 2002, he developed a passion for small animal medicine and surgery, with a particular interest in cancer medicine, earning a master’s from the University of Edinburgh. Outside of work, he enjoys hillwalking, fishing and playing guitar with his vet nurse wife, their daughter and their two dogs, Nettle and Bruce.

I grew up on a small farm in Canada, where caring for animals was part of everyday life. That early connection led me to qualify as a Veterinary Technologist in 2008 and sparked a special interest in surgical nursing and anaesthesia.
My career brought me to Scotland and the University of Edinburgh, where I refined my skills as a surgical veterinary nurse and saw firsthand the power of trust and teamwork in animal care. Now settled in the Scottish Borders, I’m proud to bring professional, heartfelt care directly to pets and their families at home.
