Our Story

We’re Ian and Bobby, the husband-and-wife team behind McKelvie Mobile Vet. Since 2022, we’ve been proudly running a family-owned, independent mobile veterinary service across the Scottish Borders, bringing compassionate, experienced care directly to the homes of pets and their families.

At McKelvie Mobile Vet, we believe veterinary care should never feel rushed or impersonal. Every pet we meet is unique, and every family has their own story — that’s why we take the time to truly listen, understand, and tailor our approach to each individual. From routine check-ups to urgent care, our visits are designed to be unhurried, relaxed, and comforting for both pets and their people.

Being a mobile service allows us to provide care in the environment pets feel safest — their own home. This approach reduces stress, encourages trust, and gives us a better understanding of each pet’s lifestyle, behavior, and needs. Our goal is to create a space where pets feel secure, owners feel supported, and everyone experiences veterinary care as it should be: personal, compassionate, and thorough.

At McKelvie Mobile Vet, every pet matters, every visit counts, and every family is treated like part of ours.

Ian and Bobby

Meet The Team

Born and raised in a quaint West Coast village, Ian spent his youth immersed in the great outdoors, playing rugby and working on a local farm.

After graduating from Glasgow University in 2002, he honed his skills in mixed practice before finding his true passion in small animal medicine and surgery.

With a wealth of experience from practices across the country, Ian has developed a keen interest in cancer medicine, earning a masters from the University of Edinburgh.

When he's not on home visits, you can find him hiking the hills, fishing the rivers, or strumming his guitar alongside his vet nurse wife, his daughter and their two beloved dogs, Nettle and Bruce.

I grew up on a small farm in Canada, where animals were part of daily life and caring for them came as naturally as breathing.

That early connection inspired me to pursue a career in veterinary medicine, and I graduated as a Veterinary Technologist in 2008. I soon discovered a real passion for surgical nursing and anaesthesiology.

That passion eventually carried me across the Atlantic to Scotland, where I joined the University of Edinburgh as a surgical veterinary nurse. Working alongside dedicated teams, I honed my skills and gained a deep appreciation for the trust and teamwork that define good veterinary care.

Today, I’m proud to call the Scottish Borders home and to bring professional, heartfelt care directly to pets and their families at home. Whether it’s a routine visit or something a bit more urgent, I believe every animal deserves gentle, thoughtful care — right where they feel most at ease.

In my free time, you’ll often find me exploring the hills and woodlands with my daughter and our dogs, sharing the joy of the outdoors and a love for the natural world.

For me, veterinary work isn’t just a job - It’s about kindness, connection, and making a real difference in the lives of the animals we love and the people who care for them.

As a caring, proudly independent practice, you and your pets will always be at the heart of what we do
